Greenfield Medical Office Building

The Greenfield Medical Office Building will be furthering its development stage soon to home more facilities for the medical research center. The medical office building was a collaborative effort between myself and another designer; together we had to create spaces that not only serve the patients, but also cater to and benefit the employees of the practice (specifically the nurses and physicians). We came up with a nurses station and reception area that mirror each other in terms of color and material choice. The space I focused on, the nurses station, had to accommodate at least four nurses, four medical assistants, and an area for
physicians to hold meetings. Beech veneer-covered light boxes line the front of the station, creating a boundary between the nurses and medical assistant areas. Orange and green were used strategically to both calm the patients and invigorate the medical staff as they carry through their day. The dropped ceiling over the station further separates the spaces.
The reception area follows a similar theme with the veneered columns and desk, and the same use of color. The vinyl flooring and the wood flooring wrap around the desk to create a wide cueing space and a specific waiting area. Steelcase furniture and Johnsonite commercial-grade vinyl flooring are used as standards throughout the project. Our design style was kept very simplistic, with sustainable and durable materials.
By providing our patients and employees with a new functional and efficient space plan, we hope to achievemore than just the aesthetic appeal. we hope this design also creates an enjoyable work environment to ensure these patients receive the best care, quality, and hospitality.

Set up on the 9th floor of the building, the nurse's station has a nice view of the downtown area. Stimulating colors are on some of the walls and the monolithic beech-veneered light boxes around the custom desk create a pleasant graphic appeal.

The bubble diagram was created early on in the schematic design process, where we tried to lay out the different entrances for the types of people inhabiting the space. The physician and business entries are more private, as they have restricted access and aren’t meant for patients. The areas are divided by color, and in the areas where there are two colors, describes spaces that can be accessed by multiple parties.

This area was completed by my teammate. We collaborated on the use of finishes and materials so that the two spaces would be cohesive without being identical.
